It is a common asked question when it the best time to come to fly fish in Patagonia during the six months of our season, beginning in November and ending late April each year.
Our question would be: what is the kind of fly fishing that you enjoy the most? Due to our location in the area no matter how the weather conditions are, our guides have many options and a vast knowledge of our waters, to take our anglers to the best place for that day to catch brown, brook and rainbow trout.
Talking about streamers? November, the beginning of our season and March & April are the best months for them. In Spring time we have high levels of waters, after the typical snowy winter we experience here in Patagonia. Fish are active and hungry in higher & oxygen water after winter time. Usually cold morning and sunny during the day it is a great time of the season in our area.
In March & April, fall season, big brown trout are active and getting ready for the spawining time. The landscape turns into something bright and colorful. All the area next to us in Los Alerces National Park turns fantastic for streamers. The temperature generally drops, and it is a great time to catch brown trout.
Dry flies? December, January & February are our warmest months (summer) and it is the best choice for dry flies. December is the best time for big attractors, dragon flies are all over in our waters. In our banks lake it is a stunning time for hatches that occur mostly everyday and gives our guests the opportunity to enjoy it while dinner is being prepared.
Nymphs? hopper droppers? Since mid December until the end of the season this is a very good technique with great results.
However all this fly fishing styles can be mixed anytime of the season. That’s fishing!
